Harley-Davidson 1960 KR Racer
American race rules considered a 750 cc side valve a fair match against an overhead 500 cc bike, and Harley’s revamped KR model was introduced in 1953 and swept all before it until 1969. The bike had new aluminium cylinders and heads, lightweight rims, hydraulic forks, a special lightweight chrome-moly frame, even more porting, relieving and gas flowing, the MR4 racing carburettor, and a lightweight exhaust and fibreglass tank to sweat off the last few pounds. A 1968 KRTT reached an astonishing 149 mph in qualifying for the 1969 Daytona 200 race. There are no production figures for 1960, but just ten KR models were made the previous year. This machine was built for half mile and mile oval track racing, with the spool front wheel and no rear brake. It has been altered from factory specification by fitting 3/4” race bars and a quarter turn snap throttle, and has the rarely seen tachometer drive. SOLD |
